I provide differences training for Part-FCL licences for the following characteristics;
- Tailwheel Undercarriage (see below for more detail)
- Turbo-Charged or Super-Charged Engines
- Variable Pitch and Constant Speed Propellers
- Retractable Undercarriage
- EFIS
- Single Power Lever Control (SPLC)
- Microlights (SEP / SSEA to 3-Axis)
Additionally, for the UK National Private Pilot's Licence (NPPL) SSEA class rating, I can provide differences training for aircraft with;
- Tricycle undercarriage, or
- Cruise speed in excess of 140 knots indicated airspeed.
A tail wheel conversion simply requires appropriate differences training and a signature by your instructor in your logbook on completion and demonstration of competence. It is NOT a “Rating” in the UK, so there are no CAA forms to complete or additional CAA fees to pay.
Typically a minimum of 5 hours training is needed to attain a basic skill level. This will include:
- Theory
- Ground handling
- Standard take-offs
- Three-point landings
- Crosswind operations
- Go around procedures
- Wheeler landings
More training may be necessary to achieve enhanced competency in stronger crosswinds and wheeler landings, as it’s in crosswinds that tailwheel types can be significantly more challenging. A more detailed syllabus breakdown is available on request.
